Farewell 2016

Farewell 2016

Part of me can’t believe it’s time to write my Christmas Hiatus post already; the part of me that’s still back in February, fresh back from watching Deadpool, before the year got super crazy. The rest of me is ready to get off the wild ride that 2016 has been and is hoping that next year will be a tad bit tamer.

Either way, it’s time to step away from technology for a couple of weeks and spend time celebrating with family and friends. We’re actually headed to Disney World this year (!) where I’m certain the holiday season will prove magical. Our trip begins and ends in mid-week, so I’m afraid I’ll be AFK for the next three weeks.

Check back on New Year’s Day for the usual project-goal updates and please enjoy your holiday season, whatever you celebrate! In the mean time, I’ll leave you with the next installment of my 52 Week Six Word Story Challenge:

If you follow me elsewhere on social media, you’ll know that I’ve been working on a 52 week six word story challenge. The idea is to write a different six word story every week based on the prompt provided. Because I like pain (apparently), I’ve decided to do four different six word stories every week, based on a selected set of characters. This makes it a little extra challenging because I’m tailoring each story to their personality, drawing on little bits and pieces of their stories. The characters I chose for this exercise are Domerin, Rose, Cazella and Silkfoot (two characters I write fairly often and two characters I thought could use a little extra love). Their personalities and perspectives are vastly different, which has made this exercise both challenging and fun.

Here are weeks six through ten:

Week 6: “Write a story in which three of the six words used have to be synonyms, two of the synonyms have to start with the same first letter.”

Domerin:
Soothing silence subdues a weary warrior.

Rose:
I prefer combating conflict without warfare.

Cazella:
Dedicate yourself to obedience, devout servant.

Silkfoot:
Unknown, unseen mystery? I’ll find it!

Week 7: “Write a story in a specific genre.”

Domerin:
His blade absorbed the magic strike.
(Fantasy)

Rose:
Long lashes set his heart aflutter.
(Romance)

Cazella:
Sly girl; she dances for information.
(Noir)

Silkfoot:
“One problem; the goelm won’t fit!”
(Steampunk)

Week 8: “Write a story in which all words have the same number of letters.”

Domerin:
Sword sworn serve; honor their oaths

Rose:
Live life like rain; flow free.

Cazella:
Their gazes avert. Lyelt alone leers.

Silkfoot:
Ties that bind? None here. Ever.

Week 9: “Write a six word story in pirate lingo!”

Domerin:
“Avast matey!” “I refuse.” “Spoil sport.”

Rose:
“Shall I sing a rousing chantey?”

Cazella:
“I’ve got yer booty here, Scallywag!”

Silkfoot:
“Ahoy mates, cast off!” “Cap’n’s excited!”

Week 10: “Write a six word story in dedication to a female to celebrate International Women’s Day.”
(Side note: all of the characters’ stories for this week are about their mothers, except for Silkfoot who has no real memory of his mother. Silkfoot’s story is about Rose instead.)

Domerin:
Defying tradition, she formed a council.

Rose:
Her lesson was “nurture and protect.”

Cazella:
Love broke her heart and body

Silkfoot:
Bold queen, ventured with pirates afar.

That’s a wrap for this year! Catch you on the flip side ;)
